OUR PHILOSOPHY

Research shows that daily practice promotes long-term learning and retention. In a traditional classroom, a grammar or math topic is taught and a worksheet is assigned. Sadly, most teachers are under time constraints and do not have the luxury of reinforcing the skills taught within a topic: students take a unit exam and move on to the next topic. Thus, the reinforcement and extensive practice needed for mastery is lacking. This program – with its daily grammar, vocabulary, and reading practice – provides this needed reinforcement and creates mastery. Also, by reading daily short non-fiction (and some prose) passages, students become stronger readers, invaluable for college entrance exams and college readiness. The targeted reading questions – inference, main idea, tone, word-in-context – build cognitive thinking.

By providing daily learning and reinforcement, The High School Daily Quiz is an excellent resource for students, whether they are in a traditional classroom, an alternative learning environment, or are homeschooled.

The program can also be used with 8th grade students as a high school enrichment and readiness program.

ABOUT US

The High School Daily Quiz is an offshoot of WilsonPrep, an SAT/ACT company. Through our 20+ years of interactions with juniors and seniors, we saw a tremendous gap in basic grammar, vocabulary, and reading literacy.

Why wait until junior year? Why learn and practice academic essential knowledge and cognitive skills only during SAT/ACT prep?

Too many times we heard, "Why didn't my child learn and practice grammar, reading, and math skills earlier?" and "My child has struggled with these core, cognitive skills since middle school."

Our goal in designing the High School Daily Quiz for 9th-11th graders was not only to close these gaps in literacy knowledge but also to reinforce important foundational skills being taught within the classroom. With the High School Daily Quiz, students can advance in academics, future standardized testing, and beyond. We took our 20+ years of experience in education and created this high-quality platform for student learning and teacher support.

As a former English teacher and current educational consultant as well as founder of WilsonPrep, I know firsthand that simply completing rote worksheets does not encourage the development of cognitive skills. The High School Daily Quiz leverages the power of technology to enhance education by providing SHORT, DAILY learning that is engaging and not boring; hence, students WANT to participate because they SEE results. Research supports - and we have seen firsthand - that practicing in short bursts on a consistent basis is the key to academic success.
